Letters From Praha

In other news, I managed to get my clothes clean again, going down to the Laundromat with Craig and Martin. Erica told me that she was going to go to Ska show here in the next week and I said, "what about me?" She said that I was invited too, as she knows that I love the stuff. We had our test today, and I think that I did well on it. Most of us felt the same. We were pleasantly surprised to find that it was a short essay answer format, on only the topics that the teacher assigned, very good news for our futures here as Czech students. Tomorrow we have off as usual and I plan to take advantage of that fully. I'll get this webpage up-loaded finally. Then I think I'll hit some sights, before returning and doing my Czech homework with Craig. Tonight the guys want to go out to a club, where they have a 60's night. Now keep in mind that here they too went through the 1960's and have some musical heritage of their own. I'm not feeling well at all as of late though, and no matter how good it would be for me to get out, I just don't feel like it right now. Coupled with the fact that if I go out I'll have to sleep in tomorrow big time, and therefor waist the better part of my day in bed. Besides the fact that the 60's never was my cup of tea. I'd take the 80's night at the Haunt over anything here tonight. A lot of the dorm people are planning on going out to the club and this event as well tonight, and it would be good to see all of them, but I still remain unconvinced. One of the guys from the dorm, Nick a great guy, was assaulted by a group of skin heads as well last weekend. Not that I'm concerned about this at a club like the Lucerna, where they are going, but it's been a messed up week. Nothing to pleasant as of late really to speak of, and not how I planned on things being here, however this is one of the downsides to communal living with a bunch of college kids. When I've come to the point where quiet nights to myself are the best nights, with occasional outings to people watch at the busier sections of town. Now one more thing. I haven't filled this page up with the intention of causing worry. It is my intention to capture the moment, so don't worry on account of what you're reading. Just know that I'm well equipped to make the most of every situation, and am doing so here.
So don't worry about me, ok!

Hey Baby, If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?

Sorry, but it had to be done! ; )
Didn't make it to the Avail show, thought that I'd better stick close to the hotel tonight, as I'm moving rooms tonight. So maybe after dinner then, I'll get cracken with that. Decided to put my knowledge of the internet and its plethora of useless information to use. Craig is trying to learn all the obscene Chech he can, and I happen to know a sight devoted to that very thing. So in the spirit of things I'm going to locate and produce the information for him. I swear I could have made money being an information gofer in college. I suppose I still could, eh! Yeah, tracks of useless info at my fingertips, but that would change if I could make some poket change for it. Internet research for hire, it could be the rebirth of Raving DingDong Inc. my old web design firm, what do you think? Personally I still think that the tea room is greatest.

I'm adjusting very well, or rather I'd say we are, now that I'm rooming with Martin. I'm having normal dreams again. "Pleasant" dreams is probably the correct term, "normal" being nothing more than a setting on the dryer. Here's one from a few weeks ago:

OK so Erica, John, Karie, and myself are going to my house in Waverly for something, from somewhere. It's winter, there was snow on the ground, maybe six inches, but not fresh, and it was dark out. You could smell the wood stoves, and the sky was clear, but it didn't feel later either. We are on my porch and I go through the motions of getting the mail out of the box. Karie and John were out back, I must have told them that the patio would be open. Erica came onto the front porch with me. She was having a cigarette and I asked if she'd come in, she wanted to finish her cigarette, and motioned appropriately so that I go the message. I saw the blue light from the TV inside the living room and assumed that is was Ashley watching TV. So I rang the bell and he let me in. While Erica stayed out and smoked, and paced the porch. I ran into the John in the kitchen as I was taking the mail out to the kitchen table, I had received some kind of news letter from Elmira College and some thing from Prague, and a green sweater, which John and I inspected and decided was nice but maybe not thick, or heavy enough. I introduced him to Ash and soon Ash made mention of someone he was going to call up. He put his hands on his hips and starred out at John and I and said "Wa-ju mean, jru got no money!" And we all started laughing. I'm not sure what John said to him to get this reaction. Then Karie came through, in running cloths and read faced and sweating. She had been out for a jog, and was just returning. We decided to go find Ashley's person, and head up to Elmira. We were riding in a pick-up truck. I remember being in the back with Erica and she bounced in a corner and snuffed her cigarette on my lower lip. It hurt so bad but we couldn't do anything but laugh, and strangely enough, in a climate where I should have been wearing my arctic coat and hood, I wasn't. Some where along the way we had a confusing run in with the police, and then continued to Elmira. I think it was the Dandy Mini-Mart on Banana curve, in Sayre. When we got to Elmira we went to the college and to the Campus center dining hall, there it was like the inside of CCC's dining hall, and the floors creaked like the old wooden floors at the church where we were boyscouts, smelled like that too. We met up with Craig and Martin, some kind of an Ice hockey game was ensuing. He asked John and I to play and I said yes but John declined. We went down these tunnels like the kind that connect our sports domes in Elmira, out to the ice. The other team was made up of the jock's from my high school memories. We were the dark team and after this I lost track of the girls. For some reason I had my equipment bag with me and left it up in the dining hall, so when in the warm up I discovered that I didn't have my goalies glove. I had skated three warm up laps and then went for the net, stood in it and had two top shelf glove side shots come in. Easy stuff right, but I felt them breeze past my finger tips, and as the second one came in I followed it to the glove only to see that I was wearing a regular hockey glove. I looked to Craig and said "do I have time to get it?" Craig said back to me "run for it boy, run." and so I took off, running down halls climbing stairs, all in my skates. I got lost and eventually found the place with my bag. It was full and they having a wood plank floor I didn't want to run out on to it in my skates, so I called around for someone to give me my bag. Eventually they did and I pulled up my glove and took off for the ice. I got seriously lost this time. And ran around in the guts of the dome for she seemed like forever. Finding my way into the other three domes and some track team events and some special community outreach, health programs. Once as I ran down some stairs I ended up in the walls at Fort Ontario. But eventually I got down the signs over the doorways, they only existed after I had gone down a path once, and were on the returning side of the wall. I came out into a big clearing like the playing fields behind the Athens school. There were small stages and an open air arena, with a game on in full force. I passed a crowd of people singing in some Slavic language and dancing, some celebration like a B-day or something. They all shouted out Do Svadanya as the music stopped and belted back a round of liqueur. As I got up to the rink, it was entirely different, we were out side, there was laves on the trees, but brown as it was fall. You could see Round Top in the background. The uniforms of the players had changed some, and the game was almost over. The opposing team was still made up of al the jock's I hated in high school, and it was a conciliation to see how poorly they could play hockey, Dieolden, even skate. Craig was standing on the side pacing like a coach and not looking cheery. Martin was out on the ice, but we didn't have a goalie, yet. I saw John on the side watching. I said "can I still get in?" and he said "sure, sure. Go!" So I staggered up the steps, my skates must have been beat the death by know, and saw Craig motioning me to get it on the ice, with the for the love of god, where the hell have you been look. As I took to the ice I woke up, here in Prague.

A good one huh. I'm not sure what's in the water here, but they must put it in the beer too! Last night we went out the a Sparta Praha game. One of the nice parts about living on this end of town is that the Sparta home field is right here, like 10min by tram. Seats were 50Kc so a little over a dollar for a major league game. A lot like the ice hockey here, if you remember my going to a Sparta Praha ice hockey game too. Yep they used the name twice. I personally get more from a good hockey game, but the soccer over here is fabulous. We sat in the stands, and had some pivo. As we were watching the game the guy next to Martin turned to him and said, "So kids, are you enjoying your beer?" And Martin replied "well yes, the beer is great." It was then that the guy informed us that we were drinking non-alcoholic beer. Being skeptical about this we started to look around. Nobody was drinking the beer, and it was 25Kc. The guy was right, and now, Craig was pissed. "That isn't even funny" He said. "Oh, now I'm pissed, that's not even a joke. And the fat cunt just kept smiling as he sold it to us. I'm gonna beat his fat ass!" Craig wasn't alone in this thinking, and we all took tern's ripping on the beer guy. We had a light dinner, and in a hurry before the game, so we were all hungry again. There was a McDonalds right there at the playing field, so we although not pleased with the idea, hit up the Mikkie D's. Those Double cheese burgers were the bomb! You know, they accept US dollars at the McD's here, strange. Probably has something to do with being hard-core Mccapitolists! Then we wandered back a stop towards home, the tram would be too full at the stadium. Grabbed the last #26 and rode toward Dejvitcka. There was a bar that we had been meaning to visit and so put forth the effort, and found ourselves some real beers. Quite a few actually, and although as we went between a few bars, losing my toque in the process we managed to cap off a good evening. Which in turn led to a pretty good morning. Prague is lovely, clear and warm today. I wouldn't be suprised if we go and play some soccer in the park later.
